About Us

Brief History of the College
CHANDIDAS MAHAVIDYALAYA, a rural college, was set up in 04.01.1972 in a remote village KHUJUTIPARA under Bolpur Sub-division in the district of Birbhum of West Bengal. The objective behind establishing this college in the rural areas was to open up the opportunity of higher education before the first generation learners coming from economically and socially backward and minority families of the locality. But at the same time modern, scientific and value based education is necessary for the students and the society at large. So college judiciously blends the twin objectives- modern, secular & value education- into its vision.

Vision and Mission
Chandidas Mahavidyalaya is committed to impart value based and scientific education to its students, coming from economically and socially backward and minority families, situated in the rural areas, so that enlightened, integrated and prosperous society can be made. Chandidas Mahavidyalaya will ensure value based sustainable and qualitative education with a view to build self confidence among the students and inject energy and vigor to help them to learn, grow and evolve.

The College is affiliated to the University of Burdwan since 1972.

Our college is accredited B by the NAAC in November 2016.

Welcome all to Chandidas Mahavidyalaya. It is an institution of academic excellence, established in 1972. It is amongst one of the remarkable NAAC accredited colleges (2nd cycle with B-Grade) within the University of Burdwan. At this College, we impart higher education to young generation both for male and female living in this rural part of West Bengal. We focus on discovering, developing and drawing out the hidden talents and accordingly our students are focused through an all round education so that they become multidimensional rather than uni-dimensional. We provide them value based education with modern teaching-learning methods with a view to produce a generation of well informed and emotionally sound. These are followed with the contribution of our highly qualified, dynamic and multi-talented faculty as well as active non teaching staff. We aim to evaluate our students on the basis of their physical, mental, social, emotional and intellectual development. I urge my students to concentrate on their cherished goals and strive hard to accomplish it. Also I urge all of my teachers to create appropriate, meaningful and participative learning situations. Also I do hope that all of other supporting staff will extend their valuable assistance whenever they will be asked for. I am optimistic that in times to come we will continue this journey with elevated enthusiasm and persistently provide a platform of holistic learning to the young generation of learners.

Students' Corner

NSS

College has two (02) active NSS units. Throughout the year NSS organize various in campus and off campus programme like one week special camp in the adopted villages, Blood Donation camp, Nursing Training programme, awareness generation programme like health & hygiene, secularism, scientific spirit.

Cultural Activities

Teachers, students and Non-teaching staff regularly participate in various observation programmes like Independence Day, Republic Day, Netaji’s Birthday, Rabindra Jayanti, Swami Vivekananda’s Birthday, Nabi Divas college foundation day etc.

Students observe Teachers Day.

Intra college cultural competitions like recitation, extempore, debate are organized and students participate in it.

Students Support and Progression

 College playing a pivotal role in getting various government grants for the students belonging to SC, ST, OBC and Minority.

An important State Government grant in the name of Kanyashree Prakalpa –for the unmarried girls students is effectively implemented.

The College arranges Career Counseling Cell with the help of some professionals for grooming the students to make them well prepared for Job market.

Sexual Harassment Prevention Committee and an Anti-Ragging Cell formed to address any such issue.
 Book Bank facility is available for economically weak meritorious students.

Feedback mechanism has been improved. Students and other stake holders can now freely submit their grievances electronically through the online by visiting college website, which are subsequently analyzed and necessary steps, are taken in proper channel.

NCC

One NCC battalion is actively working in our college. NCC cadets take part in the programme like, camp visits, Independence and Republic Day parade in the college area and outside it, Blood Donation etc.

Games & Sports

There are arrangements for various indoor and outdoor games. Indoor games are generally related with the boy’s common room and girl’s common room at their own initiatives such as carom, chess, ludo etc. As outdoor game Annual sports is held in the month of January and February every year. Students participate in annual sports organized by the college. Besides, teaching & non Teaching staff also participates very enthusiastically. The 1st & 2nd rank holders at college annual sports are sent to District level inter-college sports organized by the Education Directorate, Govt. of West Bengal. College even ready to host district level inter -college sports which is yet to be approved by the authority. In this context it may be noted that the college has already hosted two district level inter college sports very efficiently in the year-2001-02 and 2002-2003 consecutively. Events that generally conducted for the students are – Run of 200mtrs., 400 mtrs.,600mtrs.and 1000 mtrs. Long Jump, High Jump, Javelin, Shot put, Discus, Go as you like etc. Events which conducted among the faculties are -Slow cycle, Tag of war etc. Sports materials for each event are readily available in the stock of the college. At the end of the entire events prize distribution ceremony is organized in the college premises to award first, second & third ranker of each events. At this ceremony college always pursue to get the august presence of at least one dignitary.

Students’ Union

All the students of the college are considered ordinary members of the students union and the principal of the college acts as ex-officio president. The students union has a vital role to play for healthy atmosphere of the institution.

Admission

Admission of students is made only on the basis of their academic records. The candidates, who have passed the higher secondary or its equivalent examination from any recognized board or council or university and fulfilled the departmental criteria, if any, are eligible to apply for admission. The applicant should apply online on college website www.chandidasmahavidyalaya.ac.in . Admission in honors will be made through merit basis. The applicant must produce the original certificate at the time of admission and he/she has to pay the admission fee along with other charges. Candidates coming from other universities/Institutions must submit their migration certificate. Students will be admitted on condition that he/she will abide by the rules and regulations of the college. Admission in 2nd year and 3rd year is obligatory within July of each academic year.

IQAC


All works related to the teaching learning process are conducted under the supervision of the IQAC. The IQAC-meetings are held to make necessary recommendations as and when necessary to the respective Heads of the Departments (HODS). Apart from this, regular tests and departmental seminars, workshops, class debates and student’s presentations are also organized and their results are analyzed for effectiveness. Interactions, Collaborative as well as Independent learning and Group Discussions are also arranged to enhance learning experiences. IQAC monitors all the academic activities.

Alumni


“Praktoni” is the alumni association of this college which has come into existence since 2002. The objective of the Praktoni is to keep the ex-students in touch with one another and get themselves involved to help the college authority in the overall development of the institution.

Library

Librarian : Md. Alamgir Khan

Our college Library is well equipped with more than 22,000 books; a numbers of journal, more than 97000 e-Journals and e-books, OPAC facility, along with partial access to the library. Departmental library has been provided to the each department with updated books. A well equipped reading room is prepared both for the students and teachers. Separate chambers with computer and internet facility have been allotted for each department for academic activities. Under the development plan of UGC and State Higher Education Department College received grants under various scheme and constructed building, procured books and journals and subscribed INFLIBNET under N-List scheme from our library.

RESEARCH & PUBLICATIONS

Institution always encourages its faculty members to pursue research activities. For that college constituted Research Promotion committee to look after the issues of research activities by the faculty members. The committee promotes research culture and instills in the teaching community. Preparation of research papers, Minor and Major research projects for submission to the UGC, ICSSR is the primary objective of the Research committee. Apart from that college provides grant to those interested teachers who does not have any project for writing research papers. Research committee after careful consideration recommends the authority to grant the amount to the teacher. Authority also grants the teachers leave for submission of PhD thesis.

College Journal

Inquest: A Journal of Social Science and Humanities ISSN: 23495472 Although scope of full time research activity is limited in an undergraduate college like us, but college has taken initiative to publish a scholarly academic annual journal of Social Science and Humanities (ISSN) since 2014 which gives opportunity to publish articles and research findings in the respective areas.
